Pros

The leadership and management at 49 Financial truly cares more about me as a person than they do my ability to generate revenue. This company focuses on developing you as a person first and foremost, knowing that the business side will follow - not the other way around. Through my 2+ years here at 49 Financial, I feel as if I have grown more than the past 10 years combined...we like to joke that years at 49 are like dog years elsewhere, and I think it is spot on. The growth I have experienced has been both personal and professional and I have un-undoubtedly developed skills (and relationships) that will be transferable and ever present. Furthermore, the work we do here as advisor's truly has the ability to impact the lives of clients, but also employees within the firm. 49 does an incredible job of mentoring and coaching new advisor's, giving them enough structure to succeed while not micro-managing them to death. Through this level of accountability, you will have the ability to succeed early and often, while also failing early and often, which results in greater learning/growth than said successes. As time goes on you will continue to take on more and more responsibilities, but with each season, I can promise you that you will have more and more fun.

Cons

This job is the definition of a trade-off and finding harmony in the different seasons it will present to you. When you choose to do anything in life, you are knowingly choosing not to do a dozen other things you could have done (ie., eating out vs. saving money and cooking at home). Through these trade-offs you make here, you learn how to value your time but also where to spend it - something that comes through trial and error as well as a healthy amount of reflection. It is incredibly easy to just work, work and work in this career when in reality, all you need to be is more efficient....this comes through failure and adaptation until you get it down. The hours are long to start, but at the end of the day you own your success more than anyone else - meaning you reap the rewards more than anyone else. Its a intense beginning for a lifetime of fun.

Pros

If you grew up around people with money, then you might find success. I say that because you're going to be calling everyone you've ever known, offering them financial services.

Cons

If your network doesn't consist of loads of people with a lot of money who REALLY trust you, then you are out of luck. The youthful, energetic environment is meant to lure you in. I'll admit that it was a lot of fun at first. Then you start to realize that the constant seminars and motivational speakers have hollow, repetitive messaging meant to give short-term motivation. They have an "achievement" called Fast Starting. This is when you earn $20k in your first few months. I was a few hundred short of $20k and I was approaching the deadline, so they encouraged me that it would be worth it to sell myself life insurance to achieve this artificial goal. After achieving the Fast Start goal, it did nothing to advance my career. They didn't even recognize the achievement at the following summit. They tell you that you are a "business owner," but that is really just an excuse to expect you to work at all times, including EVERY Sunday. There is no such thing as work-life balance here. Even when you do get free time to hang with friends and family, you'll feel the awkward urge to talk to them about setting up a meeting to talk about finances rather than actually relaxing, because that's your life now.
