Pros

Staff that you work with are the only positives in this company along with the staff discount.

Cons

If you are not related to the retail director you have no chance of getting on. Unless you flat share with him that is, then I’m sure your career will continue to blossom. How this nepotistic behavior is allowed in this day and age is beyond belief.

Pros

25% staff discount in the store. 50% staff discount in the restaurant. 10% staff discount in the foodhall. Allowed me to gain valuable experience that I can take with me to other companies.

Cons

Let me start off by saying I used to love working for Dobbies but over the last year it has got worse and worse to the point where the majority of the workforce are ready to walk out. It is quite apparent that Dobbies do not care about their employees. Staff are overworked, underpaid and under appreciated for the work they are doing with no recognition or opportunities for promotions. The stores are running on skeleton staff as the staff that have left are not being replaced, there are no budgets for christmas temps. Management are incompetent and lazy, when you bring up any problems with them they brush it off and hope it gets forgotten about. The new team at head office haven’t got a clue and set unrealistic goals / targets as well as planning more and more events, constantly moving the goal post at short notice. The new regional manager is rude and inexperienced and has only been hired because he is friends with the CEO.

Pros

The only postitives are that some members of staff are nice and at the end of the day it's a job.

Cons

Everything. Head office are useless and have no clue what they're doing. They're hiring all staff from wyevale, is that really a good move, hiring staff from a failing business. The staff coming from wyevale are managment staff and are extremely rude and hostile. The attitude of our manager stinks. The food is terrible and over priced, I would't even feed it to a stray. I'm ashamed to tell people where I work. The pay is disgusting for the work you are expected to do. Overtime, long hours, no breaks are also expected with no thanks being given. Staff turnover has gone from high to extremely high, even the new staff that come here don't stay long. It's well know in the area for having poor staff treatment. Stop hiring Wyevale staff you idiots. Look after the staff you have and they will look after your company. unless you are extremely desperate for a job I would stay far away from Dobbies.

We are very fortunate in attracting experienced people from the garden centre industry to join us at Dobbies. We are ambitious to set the very highest standards in our garden centres and restaurants and we are working hard to achieve it. This may not suit everyone and we wish them luck in pursuing a new career.
