I am sorry to hear about your unhappiness during your employment here.
As a company, we are working hard to set clear expectations for each hire and have well thought out, honest job responsibilities. While early stage startups do require everyone to "wear multiple hats", I admit that we have sometimes asked employees to flex into roles that may not have lined up with their experience or comfort zone.
I have a "hard charging" mentality about work which has allowed me to maintain the business for over seven years. The next stage in our growth will be to balance that tendency with people skills- fostering their careers, creating a healthier culture, and narrowing each person's focus at any given time.
One thing I've been committed to from the start is appropriate, sustainable work life balance, and I disagree that we over exert our team members. No employee is expected to regularly work over 40 hours a week, and in fact we encourage people to put in a full, productive 8 hour day and then head out and enjoy time with family. That said, occasionally a call or text outside of business hours may be necessary, and when the responsibilities of a project are not completed we may all have to work overtime to get the job done. Ideally, this means we can take off early here and there as a reward for the effort.
As Founder I welcome these conversations with new hires and am committed to introspection and continuous improvement.
I wish you the best in your career.
