Pros

Nothing worthy of mentioning here.

Cons

Working as a project manager at Connetics was one of the most disappointing career experiences I’ve had. The senior leadership team is severely out of its depth — decision-making is slow, disconnected from operational realities, and often contradictory. Managers appear more concerned with protecting their own image than with enabling projects to succeed, leading to a culture of blame-shifting rather than problem-solving. Human Resources operates as a bureaucratic obstacle course, enforcing needless administrative requirements that add no value and actively slow down work. Instead of supporting employees, HR seems fixated on ticking boxes and defending poor internal processes. The workplace culture is dysfunctional: meetings drag on with little action, innovative suggestions are dismissed without serious consideration, and risk-averse thinking stifles progress. Despite being in a technical field, the organisation seems allergic to efficiency and resistant to learning from mistakes. If you are a competent professional expecting to work in a supportive, forward-thinking environment, you will find Connetics incredibly frustrating. The talent and dedication of some individual employees are overshadowed by a management and leadership structure that fundamentally fails to deliver.

Pros

The camaraderie with the guys and gals doing the work make it worthwhile, it does feel like a family when you're out and about around Canterbury.

Cons

Head in the sand attitude of management, blinkered practices of HR, sweep things under the carpet attitude, no responsibility, no incentives to go the extra mile as it isn't recognised. Too busy dotting the i's and crossing the t's while the real issues get ignored.
