Pros

Great staff, great benefits, good environment, convenient.

Cons

Cannot request any days off, management does not care about work/life balance, severely understaffed, very poorly run department. I couldn't get ONE weekend day off approved. FAVORITISM. Higher ups do not care about the Dietary Department at this hospital. Impossible to have a stable schedule here because they simply so not care about their employees. They expect us to drop anything for the job and I hate to say but the benefits are not worth it. Wonderful coworkers, the Dietary Staff here deserves FAR better. Poor excuse for a hospital that can't afford good leadership.

Pros

My direct manager is great, after a few rocky years in the department with managers and supervisors, the current manager was hired and completely turned the department around. I love working with most* of my coworkers, it is like working with close friends and family. The level of transparency between management and employees is great. There are monthly meeting with our CFO where he goes over all of the changes, new polices and plans, especially with all the new additions being built. We do yearly surveys and employee concerns are actually taken into consideration and they make actual changes. During COVID, while we had strict rules because it is a hospital, they did not lay anyone off, they tried their best to create new temporary jobs so no one would be without work. For the most part, I can walk into my manager and the CFOs office if I need anything, they are always willing to help. For the most part, employees are treated with kindness, compassion and respect.

Cons

The pay could be a lot better. In the area, similar positions pay a lot more. This position is NOT remote. We have been told time and time again that they are willing to let us work from home, but each time we try to actually do it, it is shot down and we are left disappointed. Current we are waiting on approval for proper equipment to be able to work from home, but we are all anticipating disappointment again. There is little opportunity for growth. With any small hospital, the folks in supervisor and management roles don't really leave and when they do, the company isost likely to recrute and higher an outside the company, rather than hight from within. You would think working at a hospital comes with great benefits, but that is not the case. Our medical plan is subpar at best. CVMC does offer maternity leave, but it's unpaid, we must use our accrued vacation and sick time to be paid and at the rate sick and vacation time accrues, it would take 2-5 years to accrue enough time for the most frequent 8-12 weeks maternity leave. There is no policy for mental health days and the decision is left to each manager. Some policies, come out of the blue without concern of how the effected employees would feel. For instance, for the first 2 years I worked there, there was no tattoo policy but on the 3rd years, the board came up with a no tattoo policy. I tried to appeal to the board as I do not see patients, and it was denied. They were not concerned that it made me feel discriminated against.
