I was initially hired with the understanding that the company aimed to improve sales and generate more business. Unfortunately, this goal was never realized. Several clients were dismissed by management for various reasons, which negatively impacted the company's financial performance. The reasons for these dismissals appeared to be both financial and emotional.
Working here presented challenges, as there were many hours filled with boredom due to insufficient business to justify the number of employees. A significant drawback is that, aside from PTO, there are no benefits offered.
There was a noticeable tendency for management to assign blame when things went awry, creating an uncomfortable atmosphere.
I was hired at a lower rate that was promised to increase to the agreed rate after 90 days, with a total increase of $10,000. However, at the 90-day mark, I was informed that while they wanted to retain me, they would not honor the agreed-upon rate, despite it being documented with no conditions attached. There was also a promise to gradually increase my pay every 30 days until the original salary was reached, yet this was never put into writing, and no pay increases were ever granted.
Ultimately, at the six-month point, I was let go under the pretext of not fulfilling my work responsibilities, despite the fact that the workload was minimal. This felt like an unfair attribution of blame for the company’s inability to secure new sales.
Throughout my time at the company, I often felt it was a toxic workplace. Additionally, with only seven employees, the owner established an HR department consisting of four co-workers. This meant that discussions regarding personal or employment issues, including pay and benefits, were held in the presence of most of my colleagues, which was uncomfortable.
The owner of the company will no doubt rebut my review with snippy remarks or passive-aggressive wording, and I expect this. If you are offered work at this company, ensure they provide you with proof that they will be able to support you as an employee moving forward. Otherwise, RUN.
