Be careful, there's a reason they try so hard to 'talk the talk'

Thank you for recognizing our Sandy Vacation benefit and our LuckyU training. We have implemented an anonymous employee engagement tool called TINYpulse that allows all employees a place to offer feedback, suggestions, and gain clarification on decisions. This feedback is regularly reviewed by the executive team and initiatives are implemented based on the feedback. The culture at Booksource is great because of the people we have here - hard workers that genuinely like serving our customers and working collaboratively. This feedback has been provided to the executive team to review.

Culture in decline

Pros

You will love your co-workers & the job you do.

Cons

Recently the culture has been in decline. At one time this was a hip, cool place to work but over the past couple years they have been replacing our great culture with more of a corporate culture. This week they announced random drug screening, which they are saying is to keep a safe drug free work environment. In my time here I don't recall any accidents or issues that have come about because of drug use. This policy shows the huge disconnect between the executive team & the employees. The funny thing is, the owners are pretty cool and down to earth so everyone really knows that it's being pushed by others in the executive team. This policy has also proven that the HR department is not really doing a good job of looking at the real issues our company faces and is merely going along for the ride.

Pros

You will have the opportunity to try a wide variety of things. The people you work with are amazing and you will quickly come to find them as more than just coworkers.

Cons

There are many cons and it is hard to put them all into words. Top-level management and leadership is a major problem. The CEO doesn’t know or understand the industry, the CFO is basically running the company due to a void in the CEO’s abilities, HR is distrusted by all. Worst of all, everyone knows these things but they continue to make excuses and say things aren’t that bad or that it’s just a few disgruntled employees causing the problems. There is a reason why the company struggles to keep talented individuals. The company has the ability to be great but management lacks the desire to enact necessary changes to make that happen.

Thank you for calling out the wonderful relationships you can make working at Booksource. We really do have a great staff! We have also implemented an anonymous employee survey platform - TINYpulse to allow employees to voice their opinions about decisions being made, culture, new ideas, suggestions, etc. This allows us to listen to employees in a whole new way and take immediate action on what they are saying. I am happy to report that there have been a lot of great initiatives for the organization and our culture as a result. Your feedback has been provided to the executive team.
