Pros

Decent benefits. Nice 401k/403b matching plan. Great healthcare. Access to the clinic is really convenient and free.

Cons

Company culture encourages and rewards harassment and bullies. I was sexually harassed by a co-worker, who eventually left the company and was later rehired! They're so desperate for MLTs that they overlook inappropriate behavior. A trainer in the department tried to exploit power over myself and others to complete training assignments that he made up on his own; not company training material, just a word .doc he'd made up to make other people do to exploit his power over them. I refused to do what he asked and he treated me poorly after that, when before he had been nice. I let management know about the incident and nothing was done. The same coworker called out sick using family and childcare as an excuse and then posted on social media about going hiking (ended up breaking an arm and unable to work) and was never reprimanded. The same coworker treated most female coworkers poorly as well. He and a group of others in the lab openly excluded others who weren't Mormon or male. A co-worker in the department was continually harassed, made fun of openly to their face, and demeaned by others, and management turned a blind eye. The workplace encourages and does not punish group bullying tactics such as exclusion, gossip, and ignoring. All of the managers are extremely passive aggressive. Don't bother calling people out when they display inappropriate behavior at this company, because you'll get labeled as bad at working in a team; this means you're essentially blacklisted from getting rehired there through the way their performance review process works.

Pros

Nothing anymore. ARUP used to be a respectable company to work for, but now it's been completely trashed by the current CEO.

Cons

In my personal experience, ARUP used to be a genuinely great place to work. The culture was strong, people cared about one another, and even though the pay lagged behind the industry, the environment made up for it. But that version of the company is gone. What’s left now barely resembles what longtime employees once valued. The shift in leadership direction has completely altered the workplace, and not for the better. Many of us have watched the culture deteriorate into something rigid, controlling, and indifferent to the people who built the company. Work‑life balance has been pushed aside. Employees feel micromanaged and undervalued, and the atmosphere has become tense and draining. I’ve seen talented, dedicated people walk away because they no longer felt respected or supported. Years of loyalty seem to mean nothing now, and the message employees get—intentionally or not—is that they’re replaceable. Morale has taken a nosedive. Trust has eroded. The sense of community that once defined ARUP feels like a memory. From my perspective, the company is burning through goodwill at an alarming rate, and the decline in retention, efficiency, and enthusiasm reflects that. Speaking only for myself, I would seriously caution any new hire or potential partner to take a hard look before getting involved. The current environment is nothing like the ARUP people once loved, and it shows. If you value respect, balance, and stability, you may want to consider other options.
