Pros

It's an organization that genuinely cares and doesn't employ the questionable fundraising tactics of many animal welfare and rescue orgs. What you see, is largely what you get.

Cons

Progress has stopped in China. Internationally in recent years a number of staff have been made redundant or forced out while others appear untouchable. There continues to be a culture of not so passive aggressive bullying on the fundraising side.

Animals Asia Response

The Animals Asia Leadership Team has considered this review carefully and we are sorry to hear that this employee has been unhappy with some aspects or his/her experience. We care very deeply about our entire team and have an open door policy, welcoming feedback from all employees. The strategy in China inevitably shifts through necessity, to accommodate the changing political landscape. While on the surface the campaign is less overt in the public arena, there is much work and negotiation behind the scenes, as agreed and steered by both programme and senior management staff on the ground. Yearly strategic planning meetings together with our Board and senior staff review the strengths and weaknesses of all our campaigns and steer their implementation into the next year and beyond. The closure of offices is always regrettable. Whenever we face decisions of this nature, we do so by taking into account the 600 bears we've rescued, our strategic plan and necessity to save funds, the environmental and political context, and many other factors. Our organisation understands that long-term strategies must be short-term responsive to a changing world.

Pros

I've enjoyed working with such an exceptional team. From day one, everyone's professionalism and dedication were truly impressive, it truly reflects what makes this org so special. The HR team provided an excellent onboarding experience, offering a comprehensive overview of the org's history, team dynamics, and policies. The clear and insightful information helped me settle in quickly and feel warmly welcomed as a member of the org. Furthermore, it was particularly gratifying to see the care and attention applied to every aspect of the org's operations, especially the well-being of the bears at the sanctuary. The commitment to excellence in all areas is admirable and reflects the org's values.

Cons

Managing schedules across multiple time zones in the global operations presents an challenge.
