It pays to know who your friends' friends are. Visible Path creates software that helps salespeople connect with acquaintances of acquaintances in order to find new business prospects. The company's specialized, closed system uses search engines to pull contacts from colleagues' email and other desktop sources. The person seeking an introduction sends an email through the system without knowing who the intermediary is; the ultimate recipient may ignore or respond to the request. In January 2008 the company was acquired by Hoover's (the publisher of this record).
