Varioptic Snapshot
Varioptic pushes the optical envelope. Established in 2002, the company manufactures a unique lens technology: An electrically controlled optical liquid lens, made with electrowetting technology, suited for optical lens designers. Varioptic sells its technology to manufacturers who can potentially distribute a faster, more impact-resistant miniature auto focus lens and zoom function, at a lower cost. Key applications for Varioptic's products include camera phones and video cameras, medical equipment (imaging components), biometry and identification (bar codes), and automotive technology (surveillance systems). In mid-2011 the company was acquired by Parrot, a developer of wireless devices for mobile phones.
