Sent CV (anonymised) and copy of passport and offered interview few days later. Arrived 15 minutes early and seen 5 minutes after - only one interviewer, which is less than the four I was informed would interview me. Interview lasted 30 minutes and I thought went very well. Thinking back to it however I should not have mentioned that my Dadpl passed away last year but I felt it was relevant to explain the change in career and slight gap in jobs, but have a strong feeling this was reason why they decided to go with someone else despite having very recent (left a temp position only two weeks before) relevant experience as a CSA in student accommodation and over 10 years of customer facing experience in various sectors. It might have been that the interviewer didn't like my face/ doesn't fit in with predominantly White/European team, only she knows!! Very gutted though as it shows no matter the number of years of relevant experience you have, you can always be rejected because 'another candidate had more experience' when in actual fact it's for a discriminatory reason.
