      Software Engineer Interview

      5 Mar 2024
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through other source. I interviewed at castLabs in Mar 2024

      Interview

The interview process starts with a standard HR "lets chat for a while", while HR tries to sell themselves as a great employer. So, it's a standard drill. At the end they ask if you are willing to take some test task that should take around 2 hours, but there is no actual time limit. I accepted it, of course. Within 24 hours the task arrived, I solved it, sent it back and waited. Shortly after that I received feedback saying that they want to continue with me. That always means the provided solution was good. The next online meeting was with two engineers and the same HR person from the beginning. It started with a short introduction of both sides and then we shifted to my solution for the given task. The weird thing was that one of the guys didn't even bother to turn his camera on. You talk to a person for the first time, but you cannot see him. I find that weird, but fine... The meeting was supposed to be about the task, but they had only one question about it. You sit for a few hours in order to deliver it and then they ask one simple, not very important question. That was another weird thing. At the end I asked them for an estimate on how good match I am considering my experience vs tasks on their TO DO list. According to them we were a perfect match, which was not a surprise considering my background. The meeting ended with them telling me that we are going to proceed and that I can expect the next meeting within a day or two. About 24 hours later I received a rejection.

      Question 1

A question about my solution. How to modify it to display mp4 boxes in a tree-like structure.
