I interviewed for a role at Zip and found the process quite disjointed.
The first scheduled screening call did not happen as expected. I joined the Zoom, but no one appeared on my side, although the recruiter later said they had joined. That may have been a technical issue, but it added confusion at the start of the process.
When the screening was rearranged, it felt rushed, with the recruiter mainly reading questions from a screen and cutting across answers rather than having a natural conversation.
In the second round, I was asked about AI and expected to demo something I had built with AI, but that expectation had not been made clear in advance, so it felt avoidable with better preparation guidance.
The final interview with the director was the strangest part. They joined without camera, mentioned they were getting ready to go to the office, asked questions for around 15 minutes, then said the rest of the interview was for me to ask questions. When I did, the answers felt limited and the conversation did not feel especially engaged, although they did suggest some useful articles to read.
Overall, the process would benefit from more clarity, consistency, and courtesy. Candidates should know what each stage is assessing, whether a demo is expected, and should feel that interviewers are fully present during the conversation. A bit more structure and care would make a big difference.
