      Embedded Software Engineer Interview

      1 Dec 2021
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Tokyo
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at ZMP(Japan) (Tokyo) in Sept 2021

      Interview

I applied online and had final interview at ZMP (Japan). The interview procedures were simple. I had two interviews with engineers, and we basically talked about technical things in depth, as if they were looking for a suitable role for a candidate. I eventually settled on an FPGA accelerator project. Their engineers are excellent and have a comprehensive understanding of the project. I managed to pass through the technical interview. Following that, I did an interview with two board members who were unfamiliar with their technological concept. HR told me that this round would only be about behavioral questions and they wanted to see the candidate, but board members quickly switched to technical questions, which I answered, but they interupted my talk and told my answers were unrelated to their question. It was awkward, and I noticed that this company has a large RED flag. So when they asked if I had applied for any other jobs, I managed to fail this interview by simply said yes at bigger tech company. Later, they emailed me to say that they didn't have a job for me right now. Their engineers are smart, great, and do a better job of recruiting than HR and board members. PS: ZMP is not a startup in the traditional sense, but rather a typical Japanese company.
