      Family Intervention Specialist Interview

      1 Nov 2023
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Durham, NC
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Youth Villages (Durham, NC) in May 2023

      Interview

My interview process with Youth Villages (YV) began with a prescreen interview, followed by the completion of a full employment application. Subsequently, I was invited to a first-round virtual interview with a hiring coordinator, which was a positive and promising experience. The hiring coordinator, impressed with my application and our conversations, advanced it to the Regional Supervisor. The second-round virtual interview was a panel format featuring three experienced practitioners, including the Regional Supervisor and two Clinical Supervisors. This round was a fast-paced session, which included questions exploring my prior work experience, challenges faced, and two scenario-based prompts, each accompanied by three associated questions. During this interview, my primary interaction was only with the Regional Supervisor. Reflecting on my interview experience, while the position description seemed well-suited to my background, I encountered scenarios during the interview that felt beyond my expertise. Unfortunately, no constructive feedback was provided after my responses to the scenario-based questions, leaving me with a sense of inadequacy for the role. As a young practitioner, I am motivated to grow in a clinical position with the ability to work collaboratively with a well-rounded Clinical Supervisor, which I initially believed this position would provide. After the second interview, I began to feel that the organization was seeking a candidate with a more extensive skill set and experience level than initially suggested, causing apprehension. Of note, the role got reposted with the addition of a licensing requirement. This adjustment, although not initially part of the job description, raised concerns about my suitability for the role when I interviewed for the position. In hindsight, the interview process, though comprehensive, highlighted the importance of clear alignment between stated qualifications and role expectations. Such clarity would have enabled candidates like me to gauge their suitability more accurately. Despite these concerns, I am appreciative of the opportunity to engage with YV and the valuable insights gained throughout the interview process.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

One scenario-based prompt requested the interviewee to provide clinical insight for a nontraditional family. A grandmother (GM) has custody of her teen granddaughter, who is pregnant, and her two younger grandsons. The granddaughter has been diagnosed with Oppositional Defiant Disorder and is constantly running away from home to be with her boyfriend. The GM has prompted the assigned social worker that she wants to give up custody of her granddaughter and focus her attention on the younger siblings. The children have an Aunt who lives nearby but is also fed up with the granddaughter's behavior and does not seem to want custody.

      Interview

Interview process went well but everything after was garbage. Keeping a prospective hire in the dark for weeks on end is uncalled for and rude. Then to take the job offer off the table (due to funding or whatever) to then see it posted a few weeks later should be criminal. Get your facts straight before you play with people like that.

I went through two interviews, not including the phone screen interview. They ask specific questions surrounding a provider fake scenario. The staff was very kind and made me feel comfortable.

Phone screening, phone interview then in person. Questions included scenarios and why I was going for a role outside previous internship. It felt a little brief for the nature of the job.
