You are given a case about managing employees in retail and the hardest question was... If you were told to discipline an employee for poor performance how would you go about doing it and why.

I would have a meeting with the employee. We would talk about their performance and figure out where their strengths and weaknesses lye. I would then bring up the problems the company has been having with their performance and discuss ways to improve those things. At this point you can really get a feel for the employee and if they really care or not. Define the actions and take and let them be aware that they will be reviewed for the next 2 weeks to identify their progress and their future position with this company.
