The interview process was very intensive. It began with a phone screen, then I had 3 more in-person interviews. The process included some practical exercises, including a proofing test, an editing test, and a planning test. During the planning test I was asked to draft a sample communications plan for the organization. I was nervous about this, as I had recently read about potential employers asking candidates to provide strategies, then basically stealing those strategies and not hiring the candidate.
The process included interviews with several members of different departments, and a lot of the questions were very repetitive. The last interview was with the Executive Director. After that interview I got a call saying that I had not been chosen, and that the reason I wasn't chosen was because of a typo in my cover letter. While I totally understand why that would be disqualifying, it was pretty obnoxious of her to put me through the entire process and then reject me for a typo. It seemed she had already made up her mind about me before interviewing me. It was a pretty frustrating and devastating outcome.
