Review:
I recently went through the interview process for a full-time position, which lasted over 45 days and consisted of three rounds. My experience with the first two rounds was positive—the hiring manager and a panel of managers and directors were professional, engaging, and respectful throughout.
However, the final round with the VP was a stark contrast. Unfortunately, the VP displayed a lack of professionalism and engagement during our meeting. Despite my efforts to start a meaningful conversation, there was no reciprocation. The session, scheduled for 30 minutes, was abruptly concluded in 20 minutes, with no substantive or challenging questions. It felt like the VP had already decided on another candidate before even speaking to me.
This experience left me feeling uncomfortable and undervalued. Such behavior from a senior leader reflects poorly on the company and undermines the thoroughness of the earlier rounds. Candidates invest significant time and energy into interview processes, and it’s disheartening when decision-makers fail to uphold fairness and professionalism.
I would urge the company to ensure that all interviewers, especially at senior levels, treat candidates with respect and provide a consistent and unbiased evaluation.
Advice to Management:
Train senior leaders to approach interviews with an open mind and professionalism, ensuring that candidates are evaluated based on merit and engagement, rather than preconceived decisions.
