Applied online, received e-mail a few days later about a "group interview", interview was held about 2 weeks later. It wasn't an actual interview as much as it was a screening of a about 15 people at once to select applicants which would then be granted an interview.
Upon entering a classroom with about 15 other applicants and 5 managers/"Team Leaders" from various departments, everyone stood one by one and introduced themselves by "Name, Favorite Food, and 'Why You'd Like to Work at Whole Foods'". A short slideshow/mini-presentation followed, about Whole Foods, customer service, and their expectations in general. Everyone was then numbered off "1,2" into 2 teams to come up with "an example of what quality customer service would look like"- qualities could be listed, performed as a skit, song & dance, etc.
After another short speech, we were separated into 2 groups again- one obviously being the bubbly, more outgoing people, and the other made of the ones that were quieter, or had struggled up to that point. We were given 10-15 mins to generate a 30-second "commercial" based around Whole Foods' "8 Core Values". That concluded the "interview", and we were told they'd contact certain people for an actual interview within 48 hours.
The whole thing basically focused around whether you could speak well in front of groups, as opposed to your qualifications or knowledge of the company.
