      Senior Healthcare Consultant Manager Interview

      29 Apr 2020
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Seattle, WA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at West Monroe (Seattle, WA) in Mar 2020

      Interview

The overall interview process consisted of three interviews, first interview with a Senior Recruiter, second with the Practice Director, and a final interview with Office Managing Director. The interview with the recruiter was good, provided insight into the firm, the details, and expectations of the role. It also provided an opportunity for me to share how my expertise, skills, and experience map to the role and my ability to contribute to the WMP and provide value. The second interview with the Practice Director (PD) was a really good interview, he was engaged, asked insightful questions, queued me to provide a response that led the conversation to how I could provide value and their work style. They additionally opened up about what the pain points the firm was experiencing in the healthcare vertical and how I could contribute to removing them. I connected with the PD and felt that I would enjoy working with them. The third and final interview was with the Managing Partner (MP) for the office. They were late, which is excusable, but then encountered technical issues with their ISP causing the Zoom meeting to fail and they become angered and frustrated with the meeting, to the point that he said that their colleagues will tell him to reschedule the call so he could calm down and not be mad. I offered to reschedule the call. They declined. They asked me to review my career history, which I did, and some specific details related to one of my roles and what I did in that role. They asked me if I had any questions, which I did, one being what they as the MP wanted to see from the Healthcare practice going forward, KPI's expansion of services, recruitment, and other strategic pieces of roles responsibilities and goals. Their response to me was that they didn't have an opinion, that was the domain of the PD. What a lack of leadership! I asked a couple of other questions related to culture and what I got back was packaged info, "we value everyone", "were one big team". I can get that off a cereal box. Then they had to go to another meeting and I was told that either the PM or senior recruiter would get back to by the end of the week. My total time with the MP was 40 minutes during which time they were made and distracted due to issues with the ISP. Finally, I reached out to the recruiter what I got back was an e-mail with the following included. "Unfortunately we will not be moving forward as we are looking for more alignment on product/service implementation." This made no sense as I was dead on target with the PM and the recruiter on alignment. So I asked for additional clarification as a means to understand so I could convey my skills better going forward. What I was told was the MP didn't feel I was aligned with their services. How would they know if I was aligned with their services, they didn't ask me any questions related to what I had done relative to what they currently do. Second, the office has a P&L of roughly $50M. I did share with the MP that I had managed larger P&L's purely in healthcare. Not sure how they took that. In the end, it is my belief that the MP had no interest in learning how I could lead the healthcare practice in partnership with the PD to achieve more and be more, more than likely overshadowing the CRM "Salesforce" practice where they came from. I really felt that I could contribute to the organization and that it was a really good fit for me. The PM lack of taking my interview serious and contenplating how someone of skillset and expertise could contribute to their organization tells me they are not the person for the role they are in.
