In addition to applying through the website, through a connection I had, I found the manager's name and e-mail and sent a personal, detailed e-mail of my personal history and why it was relevant in addition to my resume. About 3 or 4 weeks later, I received a phone call from the manager, asking basic HR questions about my experience, what I expected from the job, etc. Over the phone, we scheduled an interview in person. HR followed up with an e-mail and during the interview, I was interviewed by 6 people in different departments in a comfortable room with rocking chairs. Since the department emphasized women and children, the atmosphere was more about nurturing. We negotiated pay right on the spot and I went to orientation about 2 weeks later.
