I had an initial screening call for a People Manager position. I was told straight away that I will be moved on to the next stage which is a face to face interview with the CEO. I was told it would be sometime the week after and that I needed to created a roadmap presentation. I created this and prepared for the interview, only to receive a generic thank you for applying email 11 days later. When I questioned if I was still coming in for the next stage I was told the company is moving forward with a couple of candidates which now does not involve me. As a HR professional I understand that needs change and not everyone can be successful, however I find the response and lack of communication very unprofessional particularly when you have spent time and energy researching and creating a piece of work. Advice to interviewer- you need to sell the company to potential candidates as it is also a screening for them, talking about how much experience you have and how to role is not a challenge may not attract the best talent in a competitive market. Treat candidates as individuals, the climate is hard at the moment. At least apologise for messing someone around. Word of mouth goes a long way and hopefully this was a one off error.
