I applied online. I interviewed at Waylin Partners (Charlotte, NC) in Oct 2025
Interview
Screening call with recruiter, timed excel based case study, call with a current Director of FP&A consultant, where a few experience-based and technical questions were asked. Finally, there was a call with the three partners which was heavily focused on experience and fit.

Question 1
Explain how you used and implemented BI systems in the past
I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Waylin Partners in Oct 2025
Interview
My experience with Waylin Partners was extremely disappointing. After multiple interviews and being told references were being checked — a step that clearly signals intent to hire — the firm abruptly ended the process.
Conducting reference checks and then reversing course shows a lack of professionalism and respect for people’s time and reputations. Unfortunately, this behavior appears consistent with other reviews I’ve since read.
CANDIDATES should stay away, and CLIENTS should think twice — how a firm treats candidates often reflects how they operate with clients.

Question 1
Create a set of 3 financials statements from the TBs (P&L (down to EBITDA), BS, & CF).
I applied online. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at Waylin Partners (Dallas, TX) in Apr 2025
Interview
The interview process was great. I had four rounds - recruiter screening, technical interview, consultant interview, and a partner interview.
The pay, travel, and work expectations are laid out from the very beginning. For Managers, that means 90k base with total comp between 150-200k, with 10-50% travel. I applied for the manager role and interviewed for the manager role the whole time.
In the last interview, one of the partners mentioned that though it was unlikely, they couldn't guarantee that I would not be travelling every week while on a project. This was a huge change from what had been communicated after 5 weeks of interviewing. I was still eager for the role, when I was then offered a Senior Associate title instead. Senior Associate's earn 75k base with total compensation of 131-145k. Net of benefits this would have been equivalent in pay to my current role (125k w 20% bonus). With these two switches in mind, it was paramount that I ask questions before accepting an offer, which I was still excited for the work I would be performing. Upon hearing my questions my offer was revoked by the partners.
I think the people here are extremely smart, and the work is (probably) very rewarding. If you work here you will be CFO ready sooner than your peers. But they desperately need better hiring processes and more honesty in the process. It is not ok to bait and switch someone multiple times like that.
