      Senior Front End Developer Interview

      21 Jun 2022
      Anonymous interview candidate
      San Francisco, CA
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Ware (San Francisco, CA) in Mar 2022

      Interview

I was encouraged to apply at Ware. I did so, and met many of their staff. I was given a front end project. I completed the project per the spec. Met with the UX designer and had great conversations with most everyone I had talked to. I was told they were excited to hire me. I was also told they were putting together a job offer for me for the position. Then, the CTO met with me. His interview made 0 sense. He was a very strange dude. None of his questions made sense at all, and he kept changing them throughout the interview. The CTO interview went something like this. He made me do a blank whiteboard interview. Told me to completely architect the data structure for a 3d object rendered in space. How would a 3d object be structured and stored in a database. First, the object existed completely in the air, then he changed it so that I could "assume the object was from the floor to the ceiling". Wtf?? The CTO was a very odd duck. I had asked in my previous 6 interviews with the other staff members about the data structures of 3d objects mapped in space. They said I would not be working with or dealing with the nature of data structures and algorithms as this position was for a front end engineer. Okay, but the CTO was a million miles away from the other 10 people in the company. Not even close to being on the same page in any respect to the rest of the employees.

      Question 1

Here is a link to an empty white board. Without any reference, write out the data structure for perfectly mapping a 3 dimensional object suspended in space. Give the backend engineers the data structure you require to render a suspended 3 dimensional object. The object dimensions are assumed to be the same. Oh yeah, and the object dimensions are assumed to always change. Assume they know everything. What would you write as a data structure to fill them in on what they don't know? Write this out on the whiteboard with no reference to anything I am talking about.
