I applied through university. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Volant Trading (New York, NY) in Oct 2015
Interview
Applied via school system. Cursory 30-minute interview (behavioral and a couple probability questions) followed up with a comprehensive on-site interview a couple weeks later.
Had a chance to meet and converse with many senior employees during the process. Everyone was cordial; HR was responsive. Wasn't there during market hours, but I didn't get any sense of edginess or high-stress in the company culture. Got the impression that most employees were either seasoned financiers or highly quantitatively educated.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Virtually every question was standard, but it was comprehensive. Brain teaser questions are always going to be a little unique, but the emphasis seemed to be on behavioral (Why X, resume walk-through) and, in terms of quantitative questions, mental math in particular.
