I applied on Career Forum through the London Career Forum selection, and received an email from the company saying they were very impressed with my application and would allow me to skip the first several selection steps and go straight to an online “casual interview/カジュアル面談” where I could learn about the company more quickly.
I filled out the google form on the email giving my availability (which started from the day after I received the email), and waited almost two weeks to hear back from anyone at the company, which was very inconvenient as I had initially given them the earliest possible dates so I could do the interview with enough time arrange transport to London Career Forum if it went well (I live on the opposite end of the country). When they finally responded to me, the interview date they had set was not only after the initial deadline they set for me to give them my availability, but also only three days away from the event.
The interview itself was one of the strangest interview experiences I’ve ever had in my life. I admit the preparation I did was minimal, but I was invited to this “casual” interview under the pretence that it would be an opportunity me to learn more about the company.
The interview was not a “casual” interview in any sense of the word. Usually the word “casual” implies that it’ll be the usual questions about yourself e.g. 自己PR, reasons for applying, etc.
However, the interviewer jumped almost straight into asking me to compare his company to another consulting company, and then when he didn’t like my answer, he almost started to scold me and gave me at least a 5 minute lecture on why I was wrong - in the end, he ended up talking more and asking me more about the other company than his own??
The interviewer also generally just had a very condescending and unpleasant attitude. The connection on the call was not the best and so I had trouble understanding his questions at times (not helped by the fact he spoke seemingly as fast as he possibly could), and when I expressed that I was having trouble hearing because of the bad connection/sound quality, he replied “でも答えれますね?/But you can answer, can’t you?”.
After this interview, I never received any contact from Vision. I know for a fact that my interview didn’t go well, but it would have been nice to at least receive a rejection email within enough time for me to make appropriate plans for the event.
From this interview alone, I got the impression that Vision Japan is a very difficult place to work, and likely has a rather unpleasant company culture that thrives on power harassment. Be wary.
