      Driver Interview

      2 Mar 2020
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Boulder, CO
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Via(Boulder, CO) (Boulder, CO) in Feb 2020

      Interview

I thought I was interviewing for a full time para driver in Denver driving small vans but when I got to the interview they said that the only full time job still available was driving the huge public RTD like buses in Boulder, which I made clear I really did not want to do both before and during the interview. They then printed off some job descriptions for other part time jobs there were trying to get filled and tried to get me to apply to those instead. They said there was only part time work available and it would not lead to full time work, ever. Don't waste your time interviewing here if you need more than $15,000 a year to live on in Boulder.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

What is your biggest strength and weakness? Describe the experiences you have had with people with disabilities. Will you please drive the HOP even though you said you don't want to?

Thank you for reaching out. Over the past two months, we have been actively recruiting for full-time drivers for all four of the divisions that we operate. Unfortunately, the schedules that we must adhere to can be limiting for some candidates, and when this happens, we encourage these candidates to consider part-time options. However, we do understand that these part-time positions will not work for everyone, we're sorry that we couldn't find a good fit for you. We apologize for any frustration and inconvenience this may have caused you.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Via(Boulder, CO) (Boulder, CO) in Nov 2019

      Interview

This interview was a typical part time bait and switch. I applied for a full time driving position that would have paid $34,000 per year with good benefits. When I showed up they said that all these positions were filled and instead wanted me to consider a part time job in a different city that would work out to $14,600 per year if I never took a day off. They didnt tell me that the full time job was no longer available until I showed up, so I was stuck in the interview for a job I didnt want in a city Ive never been to. I got really upset when I realized they were trying to bait and switch me to part time work, and that pays so little I wouldn't even be able to afford to live out of my car if I took it. I almost snapped at the interviewer when it dawned on me what they were doing. But it gets worse. I asked them about the possibility of full time work down the road or transferring back to the route I thought I was applying to, and they then went out of their way to make it clear there would be no opportunities to transfer to another city or route or take on any additional shifts. The interviewer seemed genuinely annoyed with me when I asked about this, and said with anger and spite that there would never be any opportunity for future promotions or transfers, and I needed to agree to this one shift long term to be considered for a job at Via. And that I needed to understand 20 hours a week was the max I'd ever be allowed to work if I agreed to the job. With no benefits. $14600 a year. I did not get an offer.

Thank you for your feedback. As a transportation provider, we must adhere to specific operating schedules. While we always have full-time positions available, our operating hours and available shifts can sometimes conflict with personal schedules. This can lead to a situation where part-time might be the only viable option for an applicant. This must have been frustrating for you, and we apologize for the inconvenience. We will definitely take a look at our interview process and fine-tune it for a better interviewee experience.
