      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Verizon (Playa Vista, CA) in Mar 2015

      Interview

After sending my resume to a friend that currently works for Edgecast (now known as Verizon Digital Media Services), the recruited called me a couple weeks later to set up an in-person interview. The first interview involved interviewing with multiple leaders within the NOC on a 1-on-1 basis. After the first interview, the recruiter would call back to set up a second interview with upper management. Then, finally, if you passed the interview, the recruiter will submit a verbal offer and then set up the usual background check.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Verizon (Los Angeles, CA) in Sept 2016

      Interview

A recruiter that works for Verizon screened me over the phone before passing me along to one of the NOC managers via phone a couple of days later. After I checked out OK with him, I was scheduled for an interview about a week later with the entire team. For the oncoming interview, I was scheduled to meet with 6 of the team members, not all at once. The first pair grilled me a bit on technicals and Linux experience but were pretty cool in general. The next two were more of a personality fit and I didn't answer anything technical really. The last two were also more of a conversational interview more than anything. After that, I was told I would hear back from them soon, which took about 4 working days via email. Initially, I thought the email was for a job offer, but to my surprise it was for another interview with the VP of Delivery Services and Manager of Delivery Services (2 people again), which to my knowledge, wouldn't be my direct supervisor as these people are in charge of an umbrella of departments. After a couple of confirmation emails, some ended up being rescheduled which initially worried me as well. But alas, I finally got a confirmation and was scheduled to interview for part two. This interview was much more technical than the first 6 guys combined. I was being grilled left and right about technical concepts such as DHCP and ping commands. To the best of my abilities, I explained what they were not word for word, but more so the concept of what they do. I mean who really needs to know the minute details of what they are anyway??? I also noticed that the person I was interviewing with at the time kept looking at his phone as it was vibrating on the desk, which I found to be extremely rude and unprofessional. I understand you're the Boss of a lot of departments, but really, this interview meant a lot to me as it was a great company to work for. The interviewer also had reservations as to the scope of my work history and technicals and refused to acknowledge me as qualified based off that. He never once, took into consideration my excellent people skills as he shouldn't because he for one did not have one by constantly looking at his phone. He also didn't give me a chance to counter his reservations he had about me as a candidate as I felt rushed out because he wanted to answer his phone. Low and behold, I thought it was extremely unprofessional and rude of him to do that, considering I drove over 100 miles to be there. They didn't even send me a courtesy email to tell me I wasn't in the running for the position anymore. To me that just goes to show how the company treats candidates and it's not all that it's cracked up to be. If you are a technical person, you might have a shot, if not and you're a people person like me, you probably won't get the gig.
