It started pretty normal, with a couple of interviews with technical questions, but things went south after interviewing with the CEO. He asked a few technical questions and suggested I get interviewed by "a friend of his" who is not in the company, but who apparently provides input for the marketing process. After that, they requested 5 references, which I gladly provided. They talked to at least 4 people but they insisted on getting someone from an older job. I provided 8 different contacts and they were still asking very invasive questions (most marketers have NDA's). All this for a non-stakeholder position with no benefits that they were contemplating on downgrading to part-time and that paid less than $2k a month. They spent over a month looking into my contacts and requesting a video call. Again, they expected to take 30 minutes for an on-camera call with 5 employed professionals. This is not just unprofessional, but openly hostile and inconsiderate.
I ended up dropping from the process.
