      Community Impact Manager Interview

      24 Jun 2020
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at United Way in May 2020

      Interview

I applied online, had a phone screen, then an in-person interview with Executive, then individual meetings with board members. Because of COVID it was mostly through zoom. It was a long process but I can understand why it was like that.

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at United Way (Vienna, VA)

      Interview

I was first contacted by a HR recruiter and had my phone screening scheduled. She was late to the call and was unprepared. She wasn't sure if I had to call her or if she was supposed to call me but that wasn't an issue. She then scrambled to get my files open to start the screening and began describing the wrong person. I let her know that it was not my resume. She was able to only answer limited questions I had about the position so I saved them for the hiring manager. I was later scheduled to do an in person interview with 4-6 management personnel (including the hiring manager) but I never made it to the actual interview because 2 hours before my 1.5 hour panel interview, the HR recruiter canceled all of the interviews via email without any explanation. I felt that cancelling all of the interviews that close to the scheduled time and not receiving at least a personal phone call was very unprofessional to say the least. When I further asked the HR recruiter what happened and why they were all cancelled she was unable to explain as she was out of the loop and suggested that I contact the VP, HR directly, someone who I had never spoken to before. I did email the VP, HR and did not get any response, which was also very unprofessional. I was highly dissapointed with this process and experience.

      Community Impact Manager Interview

      Negative experience

      Application

      Interview

Interview was non-existent. A few months after applying for the job at United Way of Greater Portland Maine, I finally received a rejection letter stating they had found someone with more relevant "skills and experience". Later looked and saw they hired a former volunteer who was just out of college. I have 15 years of experience working with their relevant communities, and particularly ones in the Portland, with barely a blemish on my resume and impeccable references. Makes you wonder if the intent of their program is biased considering they hire a kid basically right out of college, and though it pains me to say this, if you look at their staff page only 20% of their staff are male.
