I was recruited and contacted for a video interview. Then, I was offered to complete the second stage of the hiring process, which was a "linguistics challenge" to describe the importance of linguistic resources for translations, and to create a term base for their company to support customer emails. This assignment took over a day to complete with high-level detail and effort. I had questions about the project, because many parts were not related to the position, and was not provided a response to clarify this until days later. I revised my project again and sent it in. I quickly received a decline email, stating that the term base translation activity was not detailed enough, even though I am not a translator, nor did I present myself as bilingual. This position does not require an applicant to be a qualified translator, yet the assignment required native-level translations. While the experience with the recruiter was very pleasant, ultimately it was disappointing to take a full day to build the "hypothetical" resources for this company's support team, and then quickly be told that my 7-page assignment lacked detail.
