      Customer Service Representative Interview

      20 Feb 2021
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Coppell, TX
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Uline (Coppell, TX) in Jan 2021

      Interview

Brace yourself. I received a call within a day to come interview in person. Which I found odd given that the position shouldn't entail working from the office during a pandemic (first red flag). Plus every other interview I've had recently was conducted virtually. Again, due to being in the middle of a pandemic. Nonetheless, I showed up in person, took two assessments on paper, had a pretty standard interview, and then took two more assessments on a computer. The person who had arrived at the same time as me was asked to leave and I was asked to come into another room where I interviewed with a manager. She then called another manager in and I interviewed with her. Total time there was three hours, and in fact missed another interview that I had scheduled for that morning. They clearly liked me and I was going to get the position. Still, no offer was given but I was sent home with a checklist to be prepared to complete should I receive an offer. (just FYI one of the things was to be a hair follicle drug test). This was a Thursday. I received a call on Tuesday asking if I was still interested in the position? I said yes, but I wasn't yet given an offer. Apparently they had been waiting for me to submit my proof of education, background check acceptance and FIVE references. Yes, five. For a Customer Service Position. Still no offer, but I went ahead and submitted. A few days later I received a call from the first person who interviewed me, who had the audacity to ask if I could reach out to one of my references (I obviously already had done this prior to submitting them) to call her back. Hm. Finally after a week I receive another call asking me to submit four more online assessments. By this point I'd received a offer from a different company (who didn't have 15 red flags - oh, have I mentioned that women can ONLY wear skirts/dresses/pantyhose, or full length pant suits?!? what decade is this??) and let them know I had accepted this other offer. The lady says "oh? um, is it more money?" To which I replied, "I haven't been given an offer from you, so I really don't know." She says okay, good luck and let's me go. I have not shown an indication that I wanted to counter, or continue moving forward with their company. She calls me back ten minutes later asking how much this other position had offered me, what the hours are etc (btw the posting was for a 1030-7 position and when I was in the interview they said it was actually 1130-8) and says she really wants to make it work. I can't help but laugh now at that. The other position was always going to be the better offer regardless but honestly, they made me bend over backwards dangling the carrot all the way, no trust in their potential employee. From the interviews it seems that they have an extremely strict untrusting environment, and are very micromanaged as well. I'm so glad I didn't end up there.

      Interview

The interview process itself was straightforward and professional. What disappointed me was the lack of follow-up communication after being told I would be updated on next steps. Instead, I had to check my application status on the Uline website, where it changed from green to red, indicating I was no longer being considered.
