      Strategic Operations Manager Interview

      29 Sept 2018
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Chicago, IL
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Uber (Chicago, IL) in Aug 2018

      Interview

1st Phone Interview with HR-Basic personality/experience/behavioral questions. For example, tell me about a time you handled a difficult situation at work or overcame something at work... Then if HR thinks you're good they'll explain more about the role and process on the phone and tell you about pay and send an analytics exam. 2nd Part the Analytics Exam... it is NOT easy! You literally have to study for this know all the Uber vocabulary and tactics and be able to apply it to MCQ's, short and long essay Q's and excel problems. I highly suggest getting a good review program. I bought two and completed them and did a lot of practices Q's. It is not easy! So Study and test yourself especially because its timed! 2 hours. If you pass the exam they will email you the next business day by 7 pm latest I'm guessing and set up an appointment with a Senior Strategic Operations Manager. 3rd Video Conference Interview- THIS IS THE REAL TEST! The Senior Ops Manager will just first ask a bit about you and then give you a background. Ask you real life scenario Q's a Strategic Operations Manager would have to deal with day to day. Here is where I messed up I actually knew how to answer most of these but went of tangent trying to answer the Q's (possibly because I was a bit thrown off and nervous). Few days later got a reply that unfortunately I wasn't a match which I had a feeling by the end of the interview. Overall I'm glad I went through the process there are a few more steps after the video conference but I didn't make it further than that. I believe they call you in for a panel interview and later assign you a project and if you do well they give you an offer.

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Uber (San Francisco, CA) in Feb 2025

      Interview

First step is recruiter screening and have your "why Uber" answer ready, next was a data analysis project that has 10 questions related to an excel sheet and if you pass that, you have a conversation with a member of the team talking about a broad situational case question like "we're operating in this city and first time orders are going up, but 2nd time orders are going down, what would you look at to determine the reason?" I didn't make it past the case. I would recommend to not keep your answers to broad and for you to get to what you think is the answer while relevant to the position title and responsibilities, rather than a broad answer that is not in scope of your responsibilities. I do know the last step if you presenting a piece of work to a panel.
