The first interview session was a phone-screen with a recruiter at Twilio where I was asked why I want to join Twilio and how much experience I had with various technologies and engineering areas that the role required. At the end of the session I was emailed a timed HackerRank test to complete. I didn't feel the recruiter was very excited about the company or the role, and I could tell he was asking the questions in a way that was simply ticking-off from a checklist. At one stage I heard an audible sigh from the recruiter after he finished asking a question.
The HackerRank was a 60-minute challenge where I had to solve two problems, one algorithmic and one object-oriented/design in nature. I implemented most of the solution but couldn't quite get it to work in the end by the end of the 60 minutes. I received an email notifying me that I would not be making it to the next round a couple of days later.
