      Project Manager Interview

      7 Jun 2024
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Winter Haven, FL
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Tucker Paving (Winter Haven, FL) in Jun 2024

      Interview

I was made to wait in the lobby for 30 minutes prior to the scheduled interview time which I showed up 15 minutes early to. When the HR woman retrieved me with a blank and unenthusiastic expression, she led me up a set of stairs through a dark hallway(the automatic lights either didnt turn on or were left off), into a large board room with only 4 or 5 people and a table the probably seats around 25. Everyone was very unenthusiastic, and the interview was more like an interrogation, though they weren't rude. I have an extensive project management background and I have never had an in person interview where I was not offered a job, but I stuttered and stumbled through my interview here like I never have anywhere. Even when I answered about my hobbies the man asking questioned me to see if that was true. It's like they didn't believe my resume, which is stellar and I have extensive references. All the questions were addressed as if they doubted that I should even be there. Their body language was off, and they passed notes in an obvious attempt to be covert, circling markings on the top of my marked up resume. One interviewer asked, "Do you even have a job now?" It's not what he asked, but how he asked it. I'm not sure what about me was so off putting, but I could tell it was and it definitely made me nervous. Normally in weird interactions like that, I take control, point out the weirdness and leave before I embarrass myself, not sure why I didn't this time. It was definitely not fun, luckily I had 2 other lucrative job offers, I was even willing to take a lower position and title to join Tucker because of their growth and reputation, that changed after the interview. I was so nervous I forgot answers to basic questions and relevant experience. The unenthusiastic HR woman whose name started with a Jay, led me back down the walk of shame blank faced. Sure it's partially my fault for being so nervous I bumbled that much, but it seemed almost as if they were annoyed that they had to interview me. I definitely have the skills to do what they need, but if that's how an interview is, I don't want to experience a working environment with them. Maybe there is something I was missing. I likely would have gotten an offer had I been on my game, but I definitely have changed my mind about wanting to work there or even interact with them period.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Standard questions about project management, experience submitting bids, pay schedules etcetera, all which I am very experienced with, but the questions were formulated like they were talking to someone lying on their resume.
