      Interview questions [1]

      Software Engineer Interview

      13 Aug 2024
      Anonymous interview candidate

      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at This Dot (Los Angeles, CA) in Jul 2024

      Interview

As others have described, the pre-screening interview is a list of 20 question (which makes it a lot more time-consuming for person being interviewed) and that's it, that's as a far as I got. The person who sent the questions said that different Recruiter would reach out. They did not. Actually, they made a mistake and sent me the Java test but then sent an email saying it was a mistake, they directed me to disregard the test. If you want to apply and risk wasting your time, go ahead, apply. Otherwise, I advice not move forward with any interview with this company, their pre-screening is supposed to be geared towards avoiding waste of time for both parts but it is clear it is just a "them" thing, they don't care about your time. You can only imagine what must be like once you get hired, if you get hired that is.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Where are you physically located? We do not do any visa sponsorship. Do you require any? (This only applies if you are based in the US) What interested you about the position? What do you do in your current position? What do you like about it? What do you not? Why are you leaving your current position? What do you think employers can do to better support their team members? Where do you hope your career will take you in the next few years? What gets you really excited in a job? Are you comfortable leading a team and have you before? Give us examples of if you have and/or if you were to. What's important to you? If you had to pick what your top 3 "values" are in life and at work, what are they and why? Do you prefer to be told exactly what to do, or do you prefer to work with little direction? Can you rate yourself for the top 5 technologies you are most familiar with - from 1-10? 1 being not at all, and 10 being you could write an O'Reilly book on the tech. While you might be proficient in many technologies, do you prefer to stay in one technology or jumping around? And why? What do you think the biggest difference in working with a consultancy vs a product company is? What would you say your strengths are, and your weaknesses? Give us an example of when someone told you to do something that was technically wrong and/or you disagreed with the architect. How do you deal with the situation? What do you think the hardest part about working remotely is and how do you plan on working remotely? What is something that you find especially frustrating about working with people? What if you become really frustrated with a teammate? What are you going to do? What are you looking for financially?

      2 May 2021
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at This Dot

      Interview

Instead of a phone screen, they send over 20+ questions for you to answer over a wide range of subjects, but essentially a phone screen. After you'll get a coding exercise to show your skills. As several other have mentioned it involves making some API requests and populating a UI with the data. They give you 5 days or so to complete, telling you to put as much time into it as you want. I returned the exercise and never heard back. Never once got to speak to an actual person.
