Interview
I applied for what was advertised as a Senior Digital Copywriter role on Indeed. The job description suggested I’d be writing for an established business with a salary. After submitting my application, I was contacted by Serge from GRIT Empowerment.
From the outset, things felt unclear. The initial screener email and phone call quickly shifted from copywriting to questions about “personal development,” “income goals,” and whether I was open to self-employment. Serge confirmed there was no base salary, despite the Indeed listing advertising one.
I was then asked to watch a long promotional video, which revealed that this is tied to Prosperity of Life — a high-ticket “personal development” MLM scheme that requires you to effectively build your own business under their system, selling expensive courses I’d never even heard of before.
When I raised concerns that this was not the copywriting position I applied for, I was told there is copywriting involved, but only insofar as I would be writing my own marketing materials to grow my own business within their network. That is very different from being a paid copywriter for an employer.
The entire process felt deliberately misleading. The Indeed post was written to attract professional writers like myself, but the real “opportunity” is a commission-based recruitment and course-selling scheme.
Key Red Flags:
Job ad mentioned a salary – in reality, there is no base pay.
Role was presented as Senior Copywriter – in reality, it’s selling personal development packages under an MLM-style structure.
Lack of transparency: company names shift between GRIT Empowerment and Prosperity of Life, making it hard to pin down who you’d actually be working for.
Heavy emphasis on “10X your income,” “self-employment,” and “personal growth,” but little clarity on what you’d actually be doing day-to-day.
Conclusion:
This was a waste of time and a misleading experience. If you are a professional copywriter looking for stable, creative work, this is not the role for you. Be very cautious about applying.
Reply to an LinkedIn ad then screening questions to see if you are a fit , presentation you do on your own ( 2 hrs) or 3dy course. Goes into monthly costs , commission structure. The focus is on personal development courses.
