So I'm currently a fairly high-performing web dev for a smaller company which uses the same tech stack. I thought this company seemed interesting, so I applied online and was sent the two assessments to take. Heard back within hours that they wanted to set up an "interview", so I did.
The "interviewer" (an HR suit) was 10 minutes late calling, and led off by giving me an in-depth history and overview of PI. When I mentioned that I had researched the company pretty thoroughly before applying, the interview became weird, short, and awkward. HR person did not ask about anything tech related. I was asked a couple of soft personality questions and about "how I got involved in this profession" before the "interviewer" solicited questions about PI.. I asked a few, and the "interviewer" told me the next step was to schedule what I assumed would be the real interview.
Next day I got a form mail stating that they had decided to move forward with a candidate "who is more closely aligned with [their] current needs". Not sure how they determined my alignment with their needs by talking about themselves for 15 minutes? However I did make a couple statements early on that pegged me as an older worker, often the kiss of death with tech companies.
