      Learning and Development Interview

      19 Dec 2010
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Hartford, CT
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at The Hartford (Hartford, CT) in Mar 2010

      Interview

Received invitation to interview within 24 hours of application. That was very impressive. I was then interviewed by a very friendly recruiter who asked basic interview questions such as "why do you want to work at the Hartford?". I was then referred to the Director of the technical program doing the hiring. She said I was the last call of the day and that the interviews so far had been frustrating. She said the first thing she wanted to be clear about was that I understood the salary being offered because many of the interviewees had different expectations. I think this may have been because the job was advertised on The Ladders and is therefore supposed to start at $100K and instead started at $80K. Anyway, the Director asked a lot about my experience and was very open to answering questions. I really felt comfortable with her. She referred me to the VP who was very nice actually. I would say that I kind of blew that interview, but found the whole process very positive. I had done a lot of homework and that really showed in the questions I was able to ask. At this point in my career, I do find it important to be very up front about what I''m looking for and finding the best fit company. The only negative feedback I have is that once the interview process was over and the let me know I wasn't selected, I wasn't able to speak to the recruiter or anyone to get feedback on the interview, what I could do to improve, etc. I was very persistent and found out later that as a matter of policy they don't provide that feedback. All in all, I do think it was a good process with exceptional people.

      Question 1

The first question that the VP asked me was the classic, "tell me about yourself".
