The recreation director of McKnight Place Skilled Nursing was in a rush when my interview was in process. I felt as if this would be the 10-minute interview. It virtually was. I wasn't introduced to my fellow workers at all, and took it upon myself when the interview was over to introduce myself. I felt pretty confident after the position was explained to me that I could be successful. She told me it paid $X, and I apologized and was going to decline the offer. She asked what I needed. I increased it 25%, and she said she would have to ask. Some minutes later, she got approval. I was shocked; I just gave myself a raise. Elevated salary maintained constant for 2 years I worked there. No complaints on salary. But interview was not in depth enough for us to know one another; weaknesses and strengths; to determine fit. I learned soon after, but stuck it out for the two years. Interviewer could have been more thorough, so we didn't have to have the strained relationship we did. Even the residents felt sorry for me when my employer fussed at me for minute problems.
