I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Tesla (Palo Alto, CA) in Sept 2023
Interview
It was quite generic, noticed it was done by an external party and not a direct Tesla Talent Acquisition team member. Didn’t go past the first stage, the recruiter made it seem like an urgent role but didn’t bother responding to follow up emails.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
I got asked my background/experience in energy storage and if I’m happy to work onsite
Recruiter showed up at 215 for 2 pm start, sounded disinterested, was dismissive to my responses, and did not ask me clear enough questions. Awful experience, she was bottom of the barrel in terms of enthusiasm and professionalism.
It includes multiple rounds assessing technical skills, problem-solving ability, and cultural fit. Interviewers focus on real-world scenarios, requiring candidates to demonstrate initiative, collaboration, and business acumen. Clear communication and alignment with Tesla’s mission are key.

Question 1
Tell me about a time you had to use data to influence a decision made by senior leadership. What was your approach and what was the result?
Basic recruiter phone screen, hiring manager 1:1, case study presentation with panel interview (followed by 1:1 interviews with each attendee). First one is to just make sure you're real, second round is for culture fit, third is to check for skills and competency
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Standard interview questions like "what was a challenge you were able to overcome" or "how did you handle a disagreement with a superior". Case study questions were extremely detailed, expect deep follow up in 1:1s following presentation
