      Senior Linux Systems Administrator Interview

      14 Jan 2016
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Mountain View, CA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Study.com (Mountain View, CA) in Jan 2016

      Interview

After two phone screenings where we discussed technical background I appeared for an onsite interview. The onsite was 4 1/2 hours long and I was not provided any breaks. The interview consisted of panel discussion of 2 to 3 people each and a technical test on a computer. The test presented challenges on Linux OS related problems and Puppet. I did well on the tests, solving all but one problem. In one of the panel interviews a person asked whether I would give root access on production systems to developers. The answer is no. There needs to be change control and separation of roles. It turns out the man asking the question is a company co-founder, who didn't introduce himself, and may not be favorable to having root access taken away. I may not have received an offer due to this and if so, it's a poor reason. A few days later an HR assistant called me but had no feedback at all about the interview or why I didn't get the offer.

We're sorry you listed that you had a negative interview experience. When evaluating a candidate, we take the entire interview process into account (no single answer on an interview question rules a candidate out). We also consider whether a candidate is right for both the role and for Study.com. In addition we try to make sure the position is exactly what the candidate is looking for.
