interview process spanned over nearly seven weeks, three different interviewers, and then a fourth person whom I never "intervewed" with called me to discuss the job offer, even though they were not directly part of the interview process at all,
My salary was discussed at every single point in the interview process and with each different interviewer. At no point did anyone say they were not flexible with the salary for the position; it was quite the opposite.
I was required to take a Caliper test, which I was told my results were outstanding. My background and experience made me an excellent candidate for the role, and the first three interviewers expressed a clear ability to grow within the company and that the role was remote. After going through the lengthy interview process, this fourth person called me who was the old CEO (they sold their company to he was the one to discuss my offer. He very clearly stated it was likely not what I wanted to hear, but he was obligated to "draw a line in the sand." He proceeded to attempt to strong arm me into accepting the role, however, for 15k less a year than what I had discussed with other interviewers and on top of that their health insurance premiums are nearly 21k out of pocket PER YEAR. He continued to explain that the role was remote, for now, but likely would transition into a hybrid or fully office at some undisclosed time in the future and there would be no adjustment to the salary for commute consideration. He went on to explain that their raises are only 1-2% per year and that there was no room for me to grow out of this role within the company. I was obviously shocked at this point in the conversation, and when I attempted to explain the prior conversations I had with the other interviewers he quickly dismissed me by stating that they had "multiple other candidates anxious for this role at this salary that will be graduating college very soon, and would be more than happy to take it if I wasn't interested". To say I was insulted is an understatement, and he knew exactly what he was doing.
I was given two days to respond.
I called the last person I interviewed with and explained this exchange. he seemed genuinely shocked and was unaware of the conversation that took place. He said he would circle back with his team and see what they wanted to do, if they even wanted to continue the conversation with me or not. He said he did not agree with many of the comments made to me and apologized for the direction the conversation went. I agreed to continue the conversation if they could clarify the obvious issues that had been brought up in the prior conversation, he appreciated that I let him know and said he would be in touch with me soon,
The only follow-up I received was a simple rejection email stating they were moving forward with other candidates. I had a feeling that would happen, and the gentleman who insulted me likely denied the conversation when asked, if he was even asked at all. I have everything documented for my records. This company is obviously a multitude of red flags, stay away.
