I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Spin Master in May 2020

      Interview

Had multiple rounds with hr, managers and other engineers. Toured their facility and the had the chance to ask questions. Fairly straightforward interview questions but they did not like it when I asked them a few times what the salary range would be and refused to tell me. I think the range I gave them did not match their expectation which is probably a factor why they went with someone else in the final round.

      Question 1

They asked me to compare one of their current toys against a competitor and guess which toy was more expensive.

      Engineer Interview

      13 Feb 2019
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Toronto, ON
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at Spin Master (Toronto, ON) in Dec 2018

      Interview

First 30-minute Skype interview was in Spin Master conference room, but started 20 minutes late while HR rep and IT person tried to connect the call to their other office. So it was really about 10 minutes. Questions were around past work experiences. Next 30 minute interview, another HR rep met me to bring me to the office of the hiring manager. But she didn't know where his office was, so we spent another 10 minutes looking for it. Interview with hiring manager was a relaxed discussion, he showed me some parts and ask how they would be made, etc. Strong emphasis seemed to be placed on how a big part of the role is tailoring my communications to non-technical people who don't seem to care about good engineering, only making money. Last in-person interview was with HR, who spent a lot of time emphasizing the lack of directional focus at Spin Master. A few weeks later I was scheduled for another Skype call with a different US based director. His perspective of the job duties for the position that I was interviewing for seemed to be completely different than those who I had interviewed with so far. Subsequent discussions with HR rep led me to believe that there would still be an opportunity as she suggested that an offer was imminent and all she needed was a final approval. Finally after a few weeks of stonewalling and delaying, they got back and told me that the job was being put "on hold". The entire hiring process at Spin Master was disorganized, unprofessional and disrespectful of the candidate. Nobody really seemed to know what was going on. If they take potential employees for granted and treat them so poorly, I don't want to think about how they treat actual employees.
