      Interview

Title: Highly automated, impersonal process — frustrating and inconsistent (Tech Lead) Interview experience: Negative Application: Recruiter contacted me (LinkedIn) Interviewed for: Android Tech Lead (or Android Lead) Process length: ~1 month+ Review: I went through this company’s interview process twice, and both experiences were disappointing — mainly due to how automated and impersonal the process is. First process (4 stages): HR screen Automated UI challenge (no interviewer) Kotlin coding challenge System design interview I passed all stages successfully, but after waiting ~1 month, I had to follow up multiple times before I was told that someone else had accepted the position earlier. It felt like my process continued even though the role was effectively already filled. The first UI challenge was extremely basic (mostly setup): a simple list + details screen in XML. Second process (less than a year later): They reached out again with a generic automated message (“we found your profile on LinkedIn”) without any mention that I had already interviewed before and passed the full process. That was strange and gave the impression they didn’t track candidates properly. I was asked to do another UI challenge, this time in Jetpack Compose: build a searchable list screen and navigate to a details screen, while a non-Android person watched silently for one hour. No collaboration, no discussion, no questions — just someone observing without speaking. It felt uncomfortable and added stress without adding any value. They said architecture and quality would be prioritized, so I focused on clean structure and maintainable code to demonstrate senior/lead-level skills. But the time limit made it impossible to finish both screens properly. On top of that, no Googling was allowed, which is unrealistic for real-world work and heavily favors memorization over engineering judgment. Overall, this was the worst interview experience I’ve had — especially for a Tech Lead position. The entire process felt robotic: minimal human interaction, little to no feedback, and a structure that doesn’t reflect how senior engineers actually work.
