I applied online. I interviewed at Soni Resources Group (Salt Lake City, UT) in May 2026
Interview
I wanted to provide feedback regarding my recent interview experience with Nick Cervino.
During the interview, I was asked about my salary expectations and stated that my expectation aligned with the compensation listed in the job posting ($85,000). Nick later asked whether that expectation was in line with other positions I had been applying for, and I explained that it was within the range of similar roles in the industry.
A few minutes later, I was asked how much I currently make at my existing role. After answering, Nick laughed multiple times and told me that I would not “get near” my stated expectations with my level of experience. I was also told, “I could send your information forward, but I don’t think they’re going to go for you.”
I fully understand that compensation discussions are part of the hiring process and that a company may decide a candidate is not the right fit. However, I found the way this conversation was handled to be dismissive, discouraging, and unprofessional. There is a respectful way to communicate salary alignment concerns without mocking or belittling a candidate.
I am not upset if the company decides not to move forward with my application. My concern is specifically with the tone and conduct of the interview experience, and I felt it was important to share this feedback so future candidates are treated more professionally.
