      Senior Software Engineer Interview

      19 Feb 2026
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Sonatus in Jan 2026

      Interview

Dublin Ireland hybrid role. Recruiter was a pleasure to speak with, very easy to talk to about work-life balance, comp and really experienced talking about the product. I couldn't tell if I was talking to a PM or a recruiter at times Spoke with senior SDM on West coast. Had to set up a call Irish time to align with Seattle which was out of hours for me. Not ideal but no way around it

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Your current technical experience, Projects you've led end to end. Have you onboarded anyone onto a project you've being the sole owner of. What do you look for in a code-review (I gave a lot of detail but they were still looking for something specific) . Very open-ended Q of "If you were to implement a new form field, how would you do it". Small coding exercise of find 2 numbers that sum to target, expect you to include simple memoization. Code enhancement was verbally discussed and not needed to be coded

      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 6 days. I interviewed at Sonatus (Dublin, Dublin) in Apr 2026

      Interview

The interview process was first a HR recruiter call and then a 1 hour technical interview. I’ve just finished the interview and can only assume I won’t get the role, but I also would not work for the person who interviewed me either so I guess a win win for us both. It was a standard enough interview by most metrics, other than the interviewer for some reason felt the need to scoff and then say how small the company I’m currently at is when asked about deploying code to production. After which told me that there’s much better competitors in the area. Neither of which are true by most objective metrics. This is besides the point anyway, unsure as to why he’d feel the need to criticise me in this case. Lastly, the interview leet code question was a generic array/matrix one, nothing to do with the particular job, I get it was assessing competency of problem solving, but felt it was rather pointless of a question to ask.

Thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We sincerely apologize that your technical interview did not meet the professional standards we strive to uphold; the dismissive comments you described regarding your current employer and the local market are not reflective of our company values. We are addressing this internally to ensure our interviewers maintain a respectful and constructive environment for all candidates. Additionally, we appreciate your perspective on our technical testing; while we use algorithmic questions to assess general problem-solving, we are constantly reviewing our process to ensure it feels relevant and fair.

      Senior Software Engineer Interview

      14 Sept 2025
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Sonatus in Aug 2025

      Interview

The process: 1. HR screening 30 min. Quite a usual one. The recruiter told about the interview process, the team, and so on. It is supposed to be 1.2 coding interviews, System design, and culture fit. (However, as it turned out, it was not true) 2. Live coding 1h. I would say it is quite usual as well. Not so difficult coding question from leet code. 3. Live coding with a not-so-difficult question. However, the interviewer's hints were leading to the wrong approach. I'm not sure if it was intentional or if the interviewer didn't check the right approach before the interview. At that stage, i started suspecting that something was not right about the company. 4. I thought it was supposed to be a System-Design-like interview. However, it's more experience-focused, with some questions about the approach to projects and a small coding question. I had a feeling that the interviewer was forced to conduct the interview right before the interview with proper preparation. 5. This was supposed to be culture fit + experience talk. However, the interviewer started literally interrogating me about the smallest details of my previous work, which is a product closely similar to Sonatus's (such a coincidence). This was not just experience-related, it was really questioning how the algorithms work. I had to say I cannot reveal such details. In my opinion, the interviewer was trying to pull the NDA information of my previous company.

      Question 1

Something similar to leet code merge interval problem.

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We aim to keep our interview process clear, consistent, and respectful, and we’re sorry your experience did not reflect that. While interviewers may tailor questions to better understand a candidate’s background, we will review your concerns about consistency and preparation. To clarify, Sonatus never asks candidates to disclose proprietary or NDA-protected information, and we regret if any questions gave that impression. Your input is valuable in helping us improve the candidate experience, and we wish you the best in your future opportunities.
