Applied and received request for interview . (Red flag 1) No initial phone screen or contact.
Went to interview (1:1); interviewer was looking at my resume for the first time. Interviewer (the boss) started asking random questions.
Interviewer said experience is only 30% of what they are looking for; then offered 30% salary off the listed $25-$35/hr. That's $8.33-$11.66/hr.
If we went line by line on my resume with the job listing, it would have been a good match. The interviewer obviously did not read the job listing or the job listing inaccurately represented the role. I had the job listing with me, but I didn't want to go line by line. If there is already a discrepancy between the boss's perception of a role, and the actual job listing, then I don't think that would go well for anyone working there.
I don't like the reviews that tell people to run because it could have just been a one off experience or bad reviewer. So I'm just going to give advice for someone serious about a job here.
1. Schedule a phone screening. In the screening, verify the job description. Yeah that sounds crazy, but you've been warned.
2. In the interview, bring a copy of the job listing, then go over the job with the interviewer.
Tbh the entire process was ridiculous and I would not recommend. I took the interview because the listing had a somewhat competitive salary. No surprise, I was lowballed. I wouldn't be surprised if the interviewer makes up random reasons to lowball you regardless of how the interview went.
If you're desperate, I would definitely recommend applying to this company to see how the hiring/interviewing process should not be done.
I hope the company reads this review and takes action on it. If they don't, no surprise.
This is the first time a company scheduled an interview without an initial phone screen. Moving forward, I would never consider an interview without a phone screen.
