I went through a multi-step hiring process for SmartSheet in April of 2021. Here is exactly what happened:
- My application is submitted through Indeed
- 21 days pass and then I am invited to a screening interview
- 6 days pass until the scheduled interview time slot.
***The interview goes well
- 10 days pass and I am invited to a second interview with the hiring manager
- 6 days pass before the scheduled interview with the hiring manager
***This interview goes very well
- 4 days later HR follows up to let me know I have qualified for the next step...A full interview with the team and project assessment.
- 2 days later I receive a project prompt with details on this stage of the hiring process.
This step included:
- A multi-step project where I was given specific business scenarios to solve for
- A 1 hour presentation of my project solutions to who would be my peers and management
- Follow-up 1 on 1 meetings with other peers and stakeholders
- A total time commitment of 5 hours, 1 hour presenting and 4 hours in 1 on 1 interviews.
A whopping 49 days passed as I endured the SmartSheet hiring process.
I had already received 2 job offers from other employers over the course of my engagement with SmartSheet, one of the offers was a highly competitive leadership role.
I did want the position at SmartSheet, but at this stage I was exhausted by the process and a presentation project followed by a full day of interviews just sounded brutal...I was already dealing with a very dense interview schedule.
I withdrew my candidacy and opted to go with a more decisive company. The company that hired me interviewed me two times over 3 days and then extended an offer.
